Dupris Management Group, LLC

Founded on legacy. Built for sovereignty.

Founded in 2010 by Shawn Johns, Dupris Management Group (DMG) is a 100% Indian-owned company inspired by the resilience and resourcefulness of Tribal economies. Shawn is a direct descendant of Frederick Dupree, a French-Canadian fur trader who, alongside his wife Good Elk Woman, Miniconjou Lakota, played a pivotal role in saving the American bison from extinction. In 1883, Good Elk Woman and her sons captured five buffalo calves on the last Miniconjou buffalo hunt near Slim Buttes, integrating them into their ranch. This herd grew and later became foundational to restocking bison across the United States.

This legacy of stewardship inspires DMG's commitment to economic sustainability and Tribal sovereignty.

"Mr. Johns' annual economic impact report to the Indian Gaming Association was cited by the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development in a letter to the Secretary of the Treasury, recognizing the economic significance of Indian gaming and advocating for the equitable allocation of COVID-19 response funds to federally recognized tribes — research that helped the Indian Gaming Association and the National Congress of American Indians lobby Congress to secure $8 billion in COVID-19 relief funding for tribes."

IMPLAN Recognition  ·  Economic Impact Analysis
IMPLAN is the gold standard software platform for economic impact analysis — used by consultants, governments, and research institutions nationwide to model how spending ripples through local economies, quantifying jobs, income, and output effects. Dupris Management Group is among the most intensive users of IMPLAN in the country. As IMPLAN CEO Justin Helmig noted: "Reality is, we haven't had anyone with as many projects or logins (115 days in the last 12 months!) not-renew before" — underscoring that no other consulting firm utilizes IMPLAN as extensively as DMG.

Why Dupris

The difference experience makes

We bring the credibility of an active CFO, the focus of a boutique firm, and a genuine commitment to the communities we serve.

Executive-level insight

Our principal is an active CFO for a Southern California tribal government — bringing real-time, senior-level financial leadership to every engagement.

Deep tribal expertise

We understand sovereign governance, tribal finance regulations, and the cultural context that outside consultants often miss.

Results-focused approach

We don't bill hours — we deliver outcomes. Every engagement is structured around clear goals, timelines, and measurable results.

Rooted in Indian Country

Four of our consultants are enrolled tribal members who live and work on their reservations every day — not just advising from the outside. While other firms may employ tribal people, few can say their team members wake up each morning on tribal land, navigate tribal governance firsthand, and bring that lived experience directly to your organization.
